I started in 2000. Requirements-Based Systems Engineering was new. Model-Based Systems Engineering was emerging. Kaizen, Six Sigma and continuous improvement promised to define engineering for the new century.

I learned RBSE then. It was powerful. It still is. Yet almost everywhere I have worked since, teams were either struggling without it, or struggling to use it properly.

The tools keep getting more sophisticated. The grasp of Systems Engineering fundamentals has not kept pace.
